What is this?
I’m soloing the Pathfinder Abomination Vaults Adventure Path, and I’m taking you with me! Rather than just running through and punching all the monsters, I’m making this a creative exercise in telling a story through the frame of the Abomination Vaults. While there will certainly be spoilers for AV, this isn’t a walkthrough. I don’t find describing action particularly fun or engaging, so I won’t be describing most of the antagonists or the fights in much more than perfunctory detail. As a result, you might find some familiarity with AV to be useful, but probably not necessary. What I will be doing is exploring how The Elliverick Family copes with and grows while in there. What do they talk about during those short rests while healing up? What happens while they’re limping back to Otari for a hot meal and a good night’s sleep? Those moments we usually abstract and fast forward through while playing a TTRPG? I want to draw those out and have fun with them. Some entries will be longer descriptions of scenes, some entries will just be dialog between the characters, but I won’t let a pause or a break pass without some recounting of what the Ellivericks are doing.
Why?
Well, mostly to have fun. But also because I have a foundry server and got the VTT for AV through the big Humble Bundle like everybody else, and didn’t have anything particular to do with it. I also have this creative writing degree just kind of collecting dust here. I thought soloing this would help my familiarity with the PF2e rules and Foundry mechanics to sharpen my GM skills. I also thought narrating the caesuras would make for a fun writing exercise.
As for why post it all to the internet? I’m not sure I have a good answer for that. Seems as good a place as any to store these entries? But mostly vanity, I suppose.
Who are you?
Thanks for asking! In brief, I’m an instructor, a cat attendant, a storyteller, a lawyer, and a geek. I’ve been playing TTRPGs in some form or another on and off for nigh on 30 years, and I’ve been playing Pathfinder (first 1e and now 2e) since 2017. I’m just this guy, you know?
